EXIOPOL ("A new environmental accounting framework using EXternality data and Input-Output tools for POLicy analysis")

The project has three principal objectives: (1) To synthesize and
develop comprehensive estimates of the external costs for Europe of a
broad set of economic activities; (2) To set up a detailed
environmentally extended (EE) Input-Output (I-O) framework, with links
to other socio-economic models, in which as many of these estimates as
possible are included. This will allow for the estimation of
environmental impacts and external costs of different economic sector
activities, final consumption activities and resource consumption for
countries in the EU; and (3)To apply the results of the external cost
estimates and EE I-O analysis for the analysis of policy questions of
importance, as well as to evaluate the impact of past research on
external costs on policy-making in the EU.
Researchers involved: Maaike Bouwmeester, Jan Oosterhaven and Dirk Stelder
Duration: 3 years (March 2007 - March 2010)
Funded by: European Commision, DG Research (under the 6th Framework Programme, Priority 6.3 Global Change and Ecosystems)
Environmentally extended Supply, Use and Input-Output Tables for the Aggregated EU27 ("Statistical services in support to environmental data centers on natural resources and products: processing data towards an environmentally extended supply, use, input-output framework")
The main objective of this project is to develop data processing routines that (1) prepare and integrate Environmental Accounts data with National Account's Supply, Use, and Input-Output Tables (ESA95 SUIOTs); (2) perform integrated environmental and economic modelling (environmentally extended Input- Output Analyses); and (3) organise and present resulting data.
Researchers involved: Maaike Bouwmeester, Jan Oosterhaven (coordinator) and Dirk Stelder
Duration: almost 2 years (February 2010 - December 2011)
Funded by: Eurostat (Unit E.3 –Environmental statistics and accounts)
System of Regional Models 2009-2011, a project for the EU
