In 2010 Professor Philip McCann has been appointed as a Special Adviser to Johannes Hahn, the European Commissioner for Regional Policy. Philip McCann works alongside the other Special Adviser Fabrizio Barca, Director General of the Italian Ministry of Economy and Finance, and author of the 2009 Independent Report An Agenda for a Reformed Cohesion Policy. Both Special Advisers provide expert counsel to Commissioner Hahn on matters relating to the reform and future development of European Cohesion Policy. The period of appointment is from 1st April 2010 until 31 March 2011.
In 2010 Philip Mcacan has been awarded the ERSA 50th Anniversary Award for outstanding research at the European Regional Science Association Congress, Jönköping, Sweden. The European Regional Science Association, an academic body of 3500 members, celebrates its fiftieth year in 2010, and the special award was to commemorate this milestone.
In 2010 J.Paul Elhorst acted as co-promotor of Misbah T. Choudhry (together with Prof. B. van Ark), held a PhD Seminar at the University of St. Andrews, Scotland, held a key note speech at the 2010 Workshop on Regional and Urban Economics, Barcelona, and has been appointed as editorial board member of Journal of Regional Science.
In 2010 Jan Oosterhaven was appointed to Officier in the Order of Oranje-Nassau by the Queen of The Netherlands, on account of his scientific and organizational contribution to input-output economics and regional science at large.
In 2010 Henk Folmer was granted as a renowned overseas scholar by the Chinese ministry of education to support the cooperation with northwest a&f university. Press release
